Prof Teng A Ong is currently the President of the Malaysian Urological Association (MUA). He is also the head of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.

Prof Ong was the BJUI Scholar from 2005 to 2007 during his training period in urology. Since then, he has been active in promoting international collaboration in education and research. At the moment, he is a board member of the Urological Association of Asia (UAA) and Societe Internationale d’Urologie (SIU).

Uro-oncology is the focus of the clinical and research activities of Prof Ong. He was instrumental in establishing the first uro-onco clinic in Malaysia, in collaboration with the oncologists. He championed the M-CaP prostate cancer registry for Malaysia (working together with the A-CaP group). His group had recently published the survival data of patients with prostate cancer in Malaysia.

On a lighter note, one of the favourite pastimes of Prof Ong is playing the violin (at an amateur level). He believes that it will improve hand dexterity and thus, surgical skills (level of evidence: level 5).
